North East Young Dads and Lads shines on BBC Three

We were pleased to see North East Young Dads and Lads Project CIO (NEYDL) featured in the recent BBC documentary ‘Joe Swash: Forgotten Young Lads’, which aired on BBC Three last month and is now available on BBC iPlayer.

The programme explores the experiences of young fathers across the UK, including those supported here in the North East. It offers a powerful and timely insight into the challenges faced by young dads and the importance of community-based support.

At Community Foundation North East, we support NEYDL in its mission to improve outcomes for young men aged 25 and under who are fathers or fathers-to-be; we were also one of the organisation’s very first funders. Through tailored, non-judgemental support rooted in lived experience, NEYDL helps young dads build confidence, strengthen family relationships and access education and employment opportunities.

Ross Wilson, Senior Philanthropy Advisor at Community Foundation North East, said:

“NEYDL is a fantastic example of how grassroots organisations can transform lives. By providing young dads with the tools and confidence to thrive, they are not only supporting individuals but strengthening families and communities across the region. We’re ecstatic to see their work recognised on a national platform.”

Grassroots organisations like NEYDL make a lasting difference, and this documentary highlights why investing in the charity matters.
