Why I give: Lyn Shears

A relationship spanning thirty years, the Community Foundation has supported Lyn Shears and her late husband Trevor with their giving from setting up their Foundation to establishing their own fund at the Community Foundation.

Lyn explains about the longevity of the relationship:

“The Community Foundation for Tyne Wear and Northumberland has played a pivotal role in my philanthropic journey over the last thirty years. The advice that they gave when my husband, Trevor, and I wanted to start giving was so valuable and has shaped what we do ever since. Our own Foundation, the Shears Foundation, exists because of that advice and support.

“The Community Foundation has a very special role in the North East with their incredible knowledge of; links to and support for the charities and organisations that are improving peoples’ lives. I have never had any doubt whatsoever that every penny that’s been spent over the years from our own fund, The Linden Fund, has gone to making the region a better place.

“Because of this, I have made the decision to donate a substantial legacy to The Community Foundation when I die. That way, I can make sure that the incredible work we’ve been part of not only continues, but gets even more impactful in the years to come. I can’t think of a better place for my money to go to”.
