Julie and Dave Stafford established the JesDesStaff Fund in 2020 with a gift to the Community Foundation. The fund supports organisations across North Tyneside delivering meaningful activities for children and young people, and organisations supporting older people, especially those living with dementia and in isolation.
Here they explain why they set up the fund and how they have chosen to add to their fund with a legacy gift:

“Following the passing of the last of our parents in 2019 we decided that it was time to put our affairs in order and as we have no children we felt that it was appropriate to put some of our money to good use within our local area.

“With this in mind we looked at the Community Foundation following a recommendation from a local solicitor. We were very impressed with what we found and soon decided that this was an organisation that we would wish to become involved with.

“There were various funds available and we chose a Field-of-Interest fund as we wished to be able to support organisations across North Tyneside offering activities for young people and support for older people who were dealing with dementia or isolation.

“We also decided to make a lump sum donation at the outset so that we would have some involvement with the Foundation thus gaining an insight into how they operated. We also felt that it was good for us to have the satisfaction of giving with a warm hand rather than a cold one.

“We have had no regrets and have added to our initial investment over the years and have had been able to see how the Community Foundation is able to use our funds to help those less well off than ourselves. And of course at the end of the day, by leaving a legacy to a charitable organisation, we are helping to avoid the necessity for Inheritance Tax”.
