About The Young Musicians Fund

The Young Musicians Fund supports children and young people (up to 21) in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland to pursue musical ambitions. Grants may pay for musical instruments, tuition fees or other associated costs. Priority is given to households with an income of less than £35,000 per year.

Young Musicians Fund was launched in 1998 when Northumbrian pipe player Kathryn Tickell approached the Community Foundation to discuss her concerns that opportunities for children and young people in the region to experience traditional music were diminishing. It has since pulled together a number of smaller funds with similar aims, such as the Abigail and Stephen Crampton Fund, to help even more young people across our region to pursue their musical talent, ambition and interests.

You should apply online and do please take the time to read the Grants for Individuals application form help notes. You must also upload a supporting statement. This is where we ask you to make your case for support as well as a place to demonstrate your commitment and passion. This fund is predominantly for individuals who have already shown an aptitude for music. We therefore also request that you provide a quote or letter from your music teacher.

Priority will be given to applicants whose family income is less than £35,000 per annum so if you are comfortable to do so, please also provide that detail within your statement.

If you are an organisation working with a young person who could benefit from this fund, and want to make an application on their behalf, please contact Jo Cundall to discuss the process.
