About David Dockray West End Young People’s Fund

The David Dockray West End Young People’s Fund supports organisations working with children and young people in the West End of Newcastle.

Applications are also welcomed from any young person, aged 16 – 25 and living in the priority area, who demonstrate talent and determination and require help in progressing career opportunities.

What is funding available for

  • Organisations can apply for between £500 and £15,000 per year and in special circumstances two year grants, up to a maximum of £15,000 per year may be considered.
  • Individuals can apply for between £500 and £2,500 per year, for a maximum of three years. Individuals must be able to make a case that a grant will support the pursuit of realistic and achievable ambitions that would otherwise be inaccessible, please upload a supporting statement.
  • The Fund will prioritise work taking place in the primary catchment area which is defined as the area in west Newcastle falling within the following boundaries of the A167 Central Motorway (Nunsmoor) to the North, A189 (Grandstand Rd / Ponteland Rd) to the East, Arthur’s Hill to the South East, Benwell and Elswick to the South, Whickham View to the South West, and Two Ball Lonnen to the West. A map showing the priority area can be found at the bottom of this call for reference.
  • Organisations based in the west end of Newcastle will be prioritised, however applications from organisations based outside of the area will also be considered if a strong case can be made.

What will not be funded

In addition to standard Community Foundation exclusions, the Fund will not normally consider grants for:

  • Work that does not primarily benefit children and young people in the Funds area
  • Work that does not address deprivation or disadvantage
  • Work that does not enrich local communities and improve local quality of life in the priority area
  • Individual applications that fail to provide a satisfactory case for support
