About Northumberland High Sheriff Awards Fund

The Northumberland High Sheriff Awards Fund makes awards to not for profit organisations which engage young people aged 10 to 25 in Northumberland, in constructive activities, and which encourage personal development. It also acknowledges the work of volunteers and encourages the development of young volunteers.

Please note: There will only be one round of applications for this fund in 2026 / 2027 with awards announced in January / February 2027.

Award winners are encouraged to attend a presentation event in March 2027 to celebrate the work of young people in Northumberland.

Who can apply?

Awards are made to voluntary and community groups and registered charities based and working in Northumberland.

An application could be for a specific project, to purchase equipment, or towards the core costs of your organisation.

The Fund supports the following areas of work with children and young people:

  • the encouragement to make positive contributions to their community
  • help to overcome disadvantage, and to realise potential
  • Help to develop self-confidence and interpersonal skills
  • the development of volunteers and volunteering
  • the provision of skills, training and employment opportunities
