Community Foundation North East was proud to be an associate partner of the North East Charity Awards for its 12th year, celebrating the charities, individuals and businesses whose commitment to giving back is helping our region and its communities thrive.
The awards are organised by Reach plc and are promoted across Chronicle Live, Teeside Live, and in The Journal and The Gazette. The awards provide an important opportunity to put the spotlight on a sector that can too often go unrecognised and on the people who dedicate their careers, time and energy to changing lives.
And the scale of that sector is significant. Our 2025 Third Sector Trends study found that there are more than 7,100 registered charities across the region, with a combined annual turnover of £1.98 billion.
Behind those numbers are thousands of people working to tackle inequality, support people through difficult times, bring communities together and create opportunities for people across the North East.
Community Foundation North East joined Point North to present the Special Recognition Award, which was given to Yasmin Khan, Founder and CEO of The Halo Project, in recognition of her outstanding work tackling violence against women and girls.
For more than 20 years, Yasmin has worked across community development and voluntary sector leadership in the North East, dedicating much of her career to advocating for victims and survivors of violence against women, honour-based abuse and forced marriage.
Her contribution has also been recognised nationally with an honour for her services to victims and survivors.
