Earlier this month, Community Foundation North East welcomed members of our Giving Network to our annual celebration of collective giving. Kindly supported by Ward Hadaway and held in their newly refurbished office, with views over the Quayside, the event brought together generosity, community spirit, and a shared commitment to making a difference.
Four local charities – Unfolding Theatre, Pendower Good Neighbour Project, People and Drugs (Silx Teen Bar Youth Project), and St Anthony’s Youth Education & Support (the Bostey)- took to the floor to pitch their work. After hearing about the inspiring work taking place across the region, members of the Giving Network decided how to distribute their funds. Over £25,500 was raised and will be awarded in grants to support the four organisations deliver vital projects across the North East.
Kevin Maloney, Philanthropy Advisor at the Community Foundation, summed up the evening:
“Our Giving Event is a highlight of the Giving Network. It’s fantastic to hear about the wonderful work the organisations do in their local communities and the members see first-hand the impact their pooled contributions can make.”

The Giving Network is built on members donating a minimum of £30 a month, and the Community Foundation matching it pound for pound. Since launching in 2018, this model has helped channel thousands of pounds into grassroots organisations doing incredible work in our region.
Chris Antony, Development Manager at Silx, shared what the funding means for their team:
“Thanks to the Giving Network, we can offer young people aged 16 to 25 access to accredited qualifications that open doors to brighter futures. Without this support, our Employability Project simply wouldn’t exist.”
The Giving Network’s progress to date stands as a testament to its impact. Since the start of the Giving Network Fund in 2019, it has awarded £136,056 in grants to 24 local organisations. As we grow, so does our impact.
