The Alan Hull Bursary
Max Grant Size: £1000
Closing Date: 01/12/2025
Location(s): Tees Valley, County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland
Apply onlineThe Alan Hull Bursary exists to encourage young song writers. Applicants must be aged 25 or under, based in the North East of England at the time of applying and be passionate about songwriting.
The Alan Hull Award was established in memory of Alan Hull, the Newcastle born songwriter and founder member of North East group Lindisfarne, who died in 1995. Fiercely proud of his roots and a lifelong socialist, Alan’s work was informed by his passion for life and his love of music. Alan was very supportive to young musicians and the aim of the award is to encourage the next generation of songwriters in the North East.
You should apply online and do please take the time to read the Grants for Individuals application form help notes. You must also upload a supporting statement. This is where we ask you to make your case for support by detailing your experiences, influences and ideas for composing and song writing. We also request that share lyric sheets and examples of your songs. Ideally you would do this by including links to SoundCloud or YouTube within your statement but if you would rather send audio files these can be emailed to Jo Cundall: jc@communityfoundation.org.uk separately.
The award will be made by an independent panel which includes Kathryn Tickell OBE and Ray Laidlaw (Lindisfarne). It will be made on the merits of your application, music and performance.
