The First Trusteeship Gathering was established by Community Foundation North East in the summer of 2020 to bring together individuals considering a trustee role, in many cases for the first time, to ask essential questions about trusteeship. The online get-togethers remain a popular event, co-hosted by Colette Harrison, Sector Support Manager at Community Foundation North East, and Karen Watson, Manager at Volunteer Centre Newcastle.
Colette says, “The value of this event is the respectful space to demystify trusteeship. Partnering with Volunteer Centre Newcastle reminds attendees that trustees are volunteers and should have a clear understanding of the expected time-commitment and extent of their responsibility.”
Attendees value the informality of the gatherings, the opportunity to hear from others and the practical tips. A discussion topic often inspires a training session or seminar to discuss a theme in greater detail, so the conversation remains purposeful. Anyone intrigued by trusteeship or early in a new role is welcome to attend. First Trusteeship Gatherings are offered as part of the Trustee Match programme.
First Trusteeship Gatherings are moving to the first Friday of each month this summer. You can book onto our next event on 1st May here, and the June event will take place in Volunteers’ Week.
