Organisations from across Tyne & Wear came together at the iconic Glasshouse to be recognised for their work supporting children and young people at this year’s High Sheriff Awards.
A total of £52,500 was awarded to 49 organisations through the Tyne & Wear High Sheriff Awards Fund, which supports organisations that provide positive opportunities for young people, offer strong role models and help them grow in confidence and ambition.
The awards celebrate organisations that create safe, supportive environments where young people can develop skills, build relationships and explore new opportunities. Each year, organisations from across Tyne & Wear are brought together to recognise the vital role they play in strengthening communities and supporting young people to thrive.
The event also featured live performances from Kema K and Gift, two young artists supported through the Northern Roots Fund, adding energy and celebration to the evening.
Reflecting on the event, Kevin Maloney, Philanthropy and Development Advisor at Community Foundation North East, said:
“The Glass House was a fitting venue to celebrate the brilliant organisations and the wonderful children and young people they support. It’s a pleasure to manage The Tyne & Wear High Sheriff Awards Fund and support community organisations that are making a difference to the lives of young people.”
Speaking about the evening, Jo Curry, High Sheriff of Tyne & Wear, said:
“What a pleasure it was to celebrate young people in Tyne & Wear at the High Sheriff Awards. It was an opportunity to sincerely thank the staff and volunteers that run the youth groups week in week out. They are mentors, role models and unsung heroes. We had a blast – The Glasshouse was a magnificent setting and both Gift and Kema Kay brought the house down with their fresh and dynamic performances. Thanks to everyone that joined in.”
The Tyne & Wear High Sheriff Awards Fund will be open to applications again between June and October of this year, before its annual awards are made in January 2027. Keep an eye out for more details by subscribing to our newsletter, using the form below.
