Youth organisations from across Northumberland came together at Alnwick Playhouse to be recognised for their work supporting young people at this year’s High Sheriff Awards. The ceremony was organised by George Farr, High Sheriff of Northumberland for 2025–26.
A total of £78,750 was awarded to 62 organisations through the Northumberland High Sheriff Awards Fund, supporting groups that encourage positive activities for young people, provide strong role models, and help them develop into confident and responsible members of their communities.
The awards celebrate organisations that create safe, welcoming environments where children and young people can build skills, confidence and friendships. Once a year, youth groups from across the county are brought together at the awards ceremony to recognise the vital role they play in the lives of young people.
Reflecting on the event, Michelle Hardie, Philanthropy and Development Advisor at Community Foundation North East, said:
“These awards are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the incredible dedication of youth organisations across Northumberland. Behind every project is a team of committed staff and volunteers creating opportunities, encouragement and safe spaces for young people to thrive. It was inspiring to see so many organisations recognised for the difference they are making in their communities.”
Speaking about his visits to youth organisations across the county, George Farr, High Sheriff of Northumberland 2025–26, said:
“I knew Northumbrians were amazing, but when I was blessed with the opportunity this year to visit the many youth organisations up and down the County, offering outstanding provision for young people, I was both impressed and so proud. I met many tireless youth workers and volunteers who provide safe and jolly environments to help make their young charges be the best person they want to be. These awards, apart from providing important funds, attempt to recognise these unsung heroes.”
The Northumberland High Sheriff Awards fund will be once again open to applications between June and October of this year, before its annual awards are made in January 2027. Keep an eye out for more details by subscribing to our newsletter, using the form below.
