The Berwick Academy Endowment Fund and the High Sheriff of Northumberland Fund at the Community Foundation is helping take young people on a musical journey through Inspired! Music, a creative school for young musicians.
The project enables young people to take part in song-writing, arranging, production and performance and culminates in a number of shows in local venues, and a CD launch in the Maltings Theatre in Berwick.
Project leader and record producer Iain Petrie said:
“This course is about taking you and your music way beyond what you thought was possible. Those who have already been through Inspired! have had the time of their lives and made some amazing music.”
The course is currently open to applicants aged 13-19 years old, living in England who can attend sessions in Berwick upon Tweed. Successful applicants will be invited to audition at the William Elder Building on Castlegate, Berwick.
Iain Petrie adds: “We are looking for young people aged 13 to 20, who love music. You don’t have to be a musician to apply. If you are passionate, enthusiastic, and committed, that is all that’s required, because everyone has latent musical talent.
“The course has already produced two high quality CDs of original work and involved over 40 musicians. We plan to engage with over 100 young people over the next two years and create a wholesome, nourishing, and supportive music scene in Berwick that will inspire others to join in and have a lasting impact on the community.”
