#PoweredByPhilanthropy 2019

In November 2018, the Community Foundation hosted the GeNErosity Festival of Philanthropy and Giving. To continue the conversation on the role of philanthropy, the Community Foundation is running a series of activities over three days in November 2019 on how philanthropy can address issues of diversity and inclusion in our community at #PoweredByPhilanthropy 2019.

Why?

Through our Vital Signs reports, we have identified fairness and equality as issues where philanthropy could be doing more. We know that some causes are more popular with donors than others, and we have a responsibility to shine a light on areas of disadvantage linked to inequality and exclusion. We also need to back diverse leaders who are making a difference through our area’s small, local charities.

What is it?

This three-day festival aims to kick start that conversation, and begin a year of research, discussions, activity and grant-making by the Community Foundation. 

Through the events in November, we aim to:

  • celebrate the work of small, local charities which are led by and which include people from diverse communities in North East England;
  • raise understanding about the philanthropy of diverse communities, and how philanthropy has supported the development of greater equality and inclusion for marginalised groups;
  • discuss challenging issues about the place of philanthropy alongside diversity and inclusion
  • motivate people and businesses to do more philanthropy to address diversity and inclusion
