The Community Accelerator Programme

Driving Opportunity Where You Do Business

About the programme

  • Join with other local businesses and help us address the employability and workforce issues which continue to hold our economy and communities back
  • Help to fuel grants for local projects focused on education, training, skills gaps, and work-readiness
  • Network with like-minded businesses and improve opportunities for people in the local community
  • Have your contribution doubled by the matching funds of generous Community Foundation donors

The Community Accelerator Fund enables local businesses to come together and help develop the local workforce of tomorrow. Contributions to the fund will support projects dedicated to addressing skills gaps, employability, STEM education, and barriers to employment in communities across Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.

How local businesses can get involved

Local businesses can contribute at one of three levels:

  • Founder £1,000 – use of the Community Accelerator logo to recognise membership of the Community Accelerator Programme, plus membership of the Community Foundation
  • Premier £2,500 – additional recognition of Premier membership in Community Accelerator events and in Community Foundation marketing
  • Pillar £5,000 – includes additional recognition of Pillar membership status and speaking opportunities at Community Accelerator events

How the funds work

  • The first £75,000 in founding donations will be matched 1 for 1 by the support of generous Community Foundation donors
  • Contributions will be celebrated (subject to the company’s approval) on a dedicated webpage and on the Community Foundation’s social media channels
  • Contributing businesses can select from three geographical funds: Community Accelerator Northumberland, Tyneside, or Wearside or all three – the donation and the match will be allocated to the selected area(s)
  • All contributions will be pooled and granted to organisations focused on quality programmes and projects in each geographic area – the goal is to make at least one grant in each area twice per year and create some buzz about each recipient
  • Once an area Fund reaches a balance of £15k the first round of grants will be made
  • Contributing companies will be offered opportunities to visit and support community projects – they can also publicise their support for specific community organisations as part of the Community Accelerator Programme
  • Participating businesses will be offered membership of the Community Foundation and invited to events which celebrate the Community Accelerator Fund’s impact
