Young people attending Shilbottle Community Hall’s Squid Squad youth session received money through the Community Foundation to visit Beamish Museum in the summer. They had a great time learning lots about the pit village which echoed so many characteristics of Shilbottle.
Following this, the group went on to complete a community challenge, raising money by walking a section of Hadrian’s Wall, a challenge organised by NE Youth. The challenge involved 11 member organisations of NE Youth walking a different section of the wall, so that between them, the entire wall was walked.
After the walk, the organisations got together at The Sill for a celebration event, including a disco and entertainment by local singer and NE Youth ambassador, Channy Thompson, who is headlining her own concert at the Metro Radio Arena on Monday 17th December. The Squid Squad youth group were lucky enough to win tickets to the concert by entering a social media photo competition, and will be going along to the concert to see Channy and her special guests perform.
Squid Squad Youth Worker Philippa said;
“The young people are so excited to go and see Channy perform. They have seen her a few times now when she has been supporting NE Youth at smaller events, and can’t wait to see her in the big arena!”
50% of the profits from the concert will be donated to NE Youth to support them to continue to provide positive opportunities for young people, such as next years Hadrian’s Wall Challenge.
Jon Niblo, NE Youth Chief Executive said:
“Channy has already headlined many events and toured with some well-known artists such as Sigala, Olly Murs, Scouting for Girls and many more. We are so excited to be working with Channy as she takes on her next milestone, headlining her very own show at the Metro Radio Arena on 17th December 2018. She is the first unsigned artist to do this EVER!! As our Young Ambassador, Channy plays an active role in promoting the work of NE Youth and is always keen to support us and our members by appearing at our events and by getting involved in the work we carry out with and for young people.”
