Leeds Community Foundation is working with Northern Gas Networks and Northern Powergrid to support Third Sector organisations and community groups to tackle a range of energy-related issues, such as affordable warmth or the lack of young people choosing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects. Northern Gas Networks and Northern Powergrid can also support applicants by providing training, information materials and networking opportunities.

Grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 are available to support initiatives that:

  • Alleviate the hardship associated with fuel poverty and promote innovative energy-related environmental impact, energy efficiency or carbon reduction
  • Educate and inform communities about safety in relation to domestic gas and power, including the dangers from Carbon Monoxide poisoning and how to protect against it
  • Encourage an interest in STEM subjects and related career opportunities
  • Promote the use of the Priority Services Register, a free service provided by network operators and suppliers to customers in vulnerable circumstances within communities
