The FB and PFB Lough Fund is open for applications. The fund, which exists to support charitable activity in North Northumberland (within a 20-mile radius of Berwick Town Hall), is making one-off grants of up to £5,000 this autumn – the deadline for applications is 26 October 2020.
The fund was established in 2018 with an extremely generous legacy gift to the Community Foundation, from Frank and Pat Lough (pictured). Frank and Pat lived in Berwick and it was their intention that the gift be used to support charitable activity in their local area. The fund’s inaugural round of grant-making, in autumn 2019, allocated nearly £250,000 to a wide range of organisations including Berwick Stroke Club, Berwick Youth Project and Wooler Youth Project.
Jon Goodwin, Senior Philanthropy Advisor at the Community Foundation is excited about this year’s grants round:
“It’s hard to believe it’s almost two years since we received Frank and Pat’s amazing gift, and incredible that it’s 12 months since the first round of grant-making. Because of the multi-year commitments made last autumn, there is less money to allocate this time around, but we are looking to support at least ten local organisations to do what they do best in terms of tackling disadvantage, strengthening communities, improving the local environment, and providing cultural or sporting activities for local people.
“As Covid-19 has transformed the operating environment for charities and community groups, we’re keen to hear from both new and existing grantees, in order that we can spend the money as sensibly as possible in helping the Berwick area respond to and recover from the pandemic.”
