Sandra King, Chief Philanthropy Officer at the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, has been announced as the new Chief Executive Officer of Beaver Trust. She will leave her role at the Community Foundation in the middle of February.

Sandra joined the Community Foundation in 2016 as Chief Philanthropy Officer and Deputy Chief Executive, where she has led work to deliver high quality philanthropy advice and ambitious growth. One of her biggest achievements was leading Generosity, A Festival of Philanthropy and Giving in November 2018, the world’s first festival of philanthropy. A committed environmentalist and former Chair of the Northumberland Wildlife Trust, Sandra established the foundation’s Local Environment Action Fund (LEAF) and led its role as a founding funder of the North East England Climate Coalition.

The Beaver Trust works throughout Britain, relocating, managing and restoring beaver populations. Working closely with land managers and communities, the charity also delivers education and communications necessary to inform the public about beavers and supports DEFRA with the emerging national beaver policy.

Sandra King said: “It has been a privilege to work at the Community Foundation and I will really miss our fantastic staff team, our donors and all our supporters. I am thrilled to be joining Beaver Trust. I was particularly drawn to the energy, passion and pace with which Beaver Trust works. I am excited to build on the charity’s pivotal convening role, strengthening existing partnerships and developing new ones. Never has there been a more important time for us to put all our efforts into addressing the twin climate and ecological crises. I can’t wait to get started.”

Reacting to her new role Rob Williamson, Chief Executive of the Community Foundation, said: “Sandra has made a huge contribution to the Community Foundation’s development over the past five years and has been a great support as a deputy to me as CEO. Her passion for the environment and wildlife has always shone through, and the Beaver Trust provides a fantastic opportunity as she moves to be a CEO in her own right. We will miss her enormously but wish her every success in her new role.”

Alasdair Harris, Beaver Trust Chair, commented, “I’m delighted that we have a leader of Sandra’s calibre to guide Beaver Trust on this next stage of our journey. Sandra brings tremendous energy and enthusiasm, and a fantastic breadth of experience as a skilled and accomplished leader in our sector. We look forward to welcoming Sandra to lead our team at this critical time for the future of Britain’s rivers and biodiversity.”

The Community Foundation is finalising plans for the recruitment of a new Chief Philanthropy Officer and Deputy Chief Executive to succeed Sandra. Details will be released shortly.
