Procter & Gamble (P&G) and the Community Foundation, announce today a donation milestone which has seen support from the P&G Fund to charities in the Tyne & Wear and Northumberland region reach £1 million. To celebrate, the P&G Fund is encouraging charitable organisations to apply for a special award of £20,000.

The P&G Fund was established at the Community Foundation in 1995 and is designed to provide ongoing support for local initiatives. The Fund has now reached a £1million milestone in grants to over 500 local community groups and charities in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.

One of several beneficiaries, St Oswalds Hospice, provide specialist hospice care to North East adults, young people and children with life-limiting conditions. The charity recently received £3,700 from the P&G Fund at the Community Foundation to help finance height-adjustable changing beds for patients with neurological conditions.

P&G has a long-standing relationship with the North-East community, as a major employer in the area, with more than 80 years of community work. Following the acquisition of Thomas Hedley & Co Ltd. in 1930, marking the first UK seat of major expansion outside P&G’s US operations, Newcastle and the surrounding area has long been a region close to the company’s heart.

Off the back of this £1 million milestone, The Fund will be making a one-off grant of £20,000 for chance in Tyne & Wear or Northumberland.

Interested charities should apply by filling in the expression of interest form online at www.communityfoundation.org.uk/apply. Applications will be open until 9am Monday 11th June 2018.

Commenting on the milestone announcement, Community Matters Champion at P&G’s Cobalt office, Andy Sherwood said, “Since we launched the partnership and programme with the Community Foundation in 1995, we have been supporting projects and charities which align with P&G’s mission to be a force for good, and a force for growth. As a local employer right here in Tyne & Wear, we want to help tackle and solve the issues most important to our employees and their communities, working in partnership with local charities and good causes, so hitting this £1 million donation milestone is extremely important to us.”

Su Legg, Senior Philanthropy Advisor at the Community Foundation added, “The Community Foundation hugely values our relationship with P&G and are delighted that our P&G Fund has reached a £1million grant-making milestone. Since 1995, the Fund has supported over 500 different causes and supported thousands of people to take part in activities that address healthy living, improve wellness, and reduce social isolation. This is a fantastic story of corporate social responsibility and the importance of business giving back to the community in which it operates.”
