North East Social Investment Fund

Providing loans and other forms of repayable finance to charities and social enterprises that make a positive impact on vital causes in our region.

Finance for charities and social enterprises

The Community Foundation is an investor and partner in the North East Social Investment Company (NESIC).

NESIC launched the £10-million North East Social Investment Fund to provide loans and other forms of repayable finance to charities and social enterprises that make a positive impact on vital causes in our region.

NESIC is a strategic body and oversees the Fund. The founding investors were Big Society Capital, Northern Rock Foundation and Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, joined subsequently by Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the Northstar Foundation. The Fund is managed by the finance firm Northstar Ventures. In 2016, the Community Foundation took over Northern Rock Foundation’s £3 million loan commitment and £1.35 million grant to NESIC.
