Sir William Leech was a notable North East philanthropist. Through the charitable trust he established, the William Leech Charity, he made gifts to the Community Foundation to inspire more philanthropy in our area.
The Community Foundation has a continuing relationship with the Leech family to this day through the two funds we hold: the William Leech Charity Fund and the Leech Challenge Fund. Groups can apply for grants of between £5,000 and £10,000 to support activities over a year. In total we expect to award around 10 grants in this round. The aim is to support volunteer and user-led work that statutory bodies do not. Examples of the kind of activities that we want to support include:

We will prioritise organisations working with people experiencing poverty (including food poverty), people with mental health problems, or people from black, Asian and other minority ethnic communities.
To apply please complete the standard Community Foundation form and clearly mark it for ‘The Leech Funds’.
