The Coquet Fund is seeking applications for projects which facilitate community development in two disadvantaged areas of Northumberland.
The first area of interest is the Coquet Valley and catchment area as well as nearby inland communities, particularly in the hills. Here the fund would like to focus on activities helping local communities affected by the decline, or reduced scope for employment, in economic activities such as farming or by other factors which have disadvantaged rural life.
The second area of interest is the parts of Northumberland affected by declining or disappearing industries, in particular coal mining.
The fund is particularly interested in projects which help the community in affected areas to adapt and thrive in changed economic and social circumstances. This might be achieved, for example, through activities such as sport, music and other leisure activities that help strengthen the community and activities which develop skill sets relevant to current and future circumstances, particularly among the young.
The fund could support the provision / improvement of infrastructure or other physical assets. Where the support takes less tangible form, such as the provision of programmes, it would be an advantage if the activity envisaged were capable of replication or other use in future. The fund favours projects which benefit people through such community facilities and activities rather than in the form of individual support.
We encourage applicants to outline how factors relating to the Covid-19 pandemic have influenced the development or adaptation of their proposed projects, while recognising that these considerations may change over time.
Grants of £750 to £4,000 inclusive are available.
