The Northumberland High Sheriff's Award Scheme rewards youth organisations in Northumberland that encourage and provide positive pursuits for young people, providing them with role models and helping them to develop into upstanding citizens.
It makes awards to community youth projects and other similar not-for-profit organisations in Northumberland which engage young people aged 10 to 25 in constructive and developmental activities, encourage their personal development and deter them from anti-social activities. It also acknowledges the work of volunteers and encourages the development of young volunteers.
Who can apply?
Awards are made to voluntary and community groups and registered charities based and working in Northumberland. An application could be for a specific project, to purchase equipment, or towards the core costs of your organisation, which focuses its work with children and young people aged 10 to 25 years old.
The application should explain what the organisation does to steer young people away from crime and anti-social behaviour and should also demonstrate how the young people are encouraged to be good citizens, either by volunteering, fundraising or engaging positively in their club and community. It also recognises work to support young people overcome personal challenging lifestyles or turn their back on negative behaviour as a result of engaging with the group.
Please note that the funding panel for this round will meet in January 2023, with grant awards made in February 2023. Award winners are encouraged to attend a presentation event in March 2023 to celebrate the work of young people in Northumberland.
