Grants for Multi-Use Game Areas

  • Grant Range: Up to £25,000
  • Closing Date: midnight, Sunday 3 July 2022

About The Readman Family Grassroots Fund

The Readman Family Grassroots Fund invites Expressions of Interest for Multi-use Games Area (MUGA) funding. The MUGAs are to be made available to young people to encourage them to engage in healthy pursuits and to offer a distraction from boredom and anti-social behaviour. In addition, they will enhance the community and strengthen the capacity of the organisation. Applicants should have a strong volunteer force alongside any salaried staff and will need to demonstrate how they will make the MUGAs accessible to young people in areas of disadvantage.

The grants will be expected to cover the purchase and siting of a suitably sized MUGA, any costs required to level the ground, associated costs (e.g. insurance/security) and a budget for sporting equipment to be used on the site.

Applicants must be able to confirm that they have all relevant permissions to site a MUGA and own/lease the area where it will be placed for a minimum of 10 years. The Community Foundation will consider applications from organisations working in partnership with landowners, providing that there is a formal agreement regarding access and long-term ownership of the asset.

How to apply

On no more than two sides of A4, the Expression of Interest should be submitted to Ross Wilson by 3 July 2022. Up to 10 organisations will then be asked to complete a Community Foundation application form; applicants going through to this stage will be contacted by 11 July with a deadline of 31 July to apply.

The Readman Family Grassroots Fund at the Community Foundation is intending to make four grants of up to £25,000 each for a Multi-Use Games Area, to benefit young people living in disadvantaged communities within Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.
