The Women's Fund helps local women in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland to overcome disadvantage, support each other and achieve their potential. The fund recognises that women need and want women's only services so that they feel safe, supported and confident when confronted by lack of opportunities, discrimination and abuse. It therefore awards grants to voluntary and community groups that run successful women's only projects.
For the first time grants of up to £5,000 are available but we do need to see a clear budget breakdown. Support can be provided for specific projects to help groups of women achieve their potential, access information and assistance on social, health and economic issues or benefit from training and support. We expect the majority of beneficiaries to be over 18 although we will not exclude projects including those 16 + from consideration for a grant. We will, in exceptional circumstances, consider making a contribution to support core costs but the applicant would need to clearly demonstrate how the grant would make a difference to local women in line with the purpose of the fund.
