About The Readman Family Grassroots Fund

The Readman Family Grassroots Funds is one of a number of Funds established thanks to the generosity of Guy Readman OBE.

The MUGAs are to be made available to young people to encourage them to engage in healthy pursuits and to offer a distraction from boredom and anti-social behaviour. In addition, they will enhance the community and strengthen the capacity of the organisation. Applicants should have a strong volunteer force working alongside any salaried staff and will need to demonstrate how they will make the MUGAs accessible to young people in areas of disadvantage within Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.

The grants will be expected to cover the purchase and siting of a suitably sized MUGA, any costs required to level the ground, associated costs (e.g. insurance/security), and a budget for sporting equipment to be used on the site.

Applicants must be able to confirm that they have all relevant permissions to site a MUGA and own/lease the area where it will be placed for a minimum of 10 years. The Community Foundation will consider applications from organisations working in partnership with landowners, providing that there is a formal agreement regarding access and long-term ownership of the asset.

How to apply

Given the size of the potential grant amounts, it is highly recommended that applicants speak with the Fund Manager, Ross Wilson, before applying.

Although this is a rolling call, it is likely to close once approximately £150,000 has been allocated in grants.
