The Not For Profit Managers’ Toolkit is a six module training programme led by Mark Butcher Associates. The programme is designed to give not for profit managers high level skills in people management, personal effectiveness and change management. The master classes form a comprehensive ‘tool kit’ – although each stands alone, focusing on a key skill.

In this session we’ll demonstrate that the ability to lead and inspire others comes with the consistent day-to-day application of a few simple, but very powerful principles.
This module will examine those principles whilst looking at the difference between leadership and management, how your management style should be flexible, rather than fixed, (depending on the situation), and how to conduct a Team M.O.T. that will help your team perform significantly better. By the end you’ll have a list of ‘good boss’ behaviours to practice and ‘bad boss’ behaviours to avoid!

This module digs deep into what really motivates people using both classic and cutting-edge motivational theory.
We’ll show you how to motivate with the right choice of words, motivate with the right actions and deliver effective feedback. You’ll be able to match your team members to the right tasks and get the best from them, as well as support those whose performance is not yet up to scratch to improve.

This module will look at typical types of difficult behaviours, 5 key responses, how to change their behaviour by modifying your own, how to prevent difficulty through better communication, how to build ‘emotional capital’ and how to defuse, calm and avoid confrontation.

A key part of the manager’s role is to influence others, overcome objections and get everyone ‘singing to the same song sheet’.
This first half of this module will introduce the work of leading U.S. psychologist Dr. Robert Cialdini, who demonstrates the ‘golden rules of influence’. Using techniques such as ‘social proof’, ‘reciprocity’ and ‘the consistency and commitment principle’, you will assemble a practical toolkit to influence colleagues, team members, (not to mention trustees, friends and family!) in a range of contexts. We’ll then progress to look at how most communication is non-verbal, and how, by using your voice, posture, movement and eye contact, you can build rapport, smooth over tensions and reach agreement with others quickly and effectively.

This module starts from the premise that change is difficult to begin and harder to make stick. And it’s not the ‘change plan’ that you need – it’s a ‘people plan’, because it is people that will either go along with the change you propose or wreck it entirely. We’ll show you how to use a simple ‘change equation’ to assess the size of the challenge you face, spot the 15 reasons change usually fails, manage the process of change to minimise disruption, overcome people’s objections and develop a change leadership style that will keep your people on board. We’ll draw on the work of some of the world’s leading ‘thought leaders’ in the field, such as Kurt Lewin, John Kotter, Ken Blanchard, Jane Mouton, Robert Blake and Elisabeth Kubler-Ross.
Mark has been working as a fundraising and management consultant and trainer for 30 years.
