Cultural leader appointed to board of the Community Foundation

The Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland has appointed Claire Malcolm, chief executive of literary charity New Writing North, to its board of trustees.

Claire joins an 11-strong trustee board drawn from leaders in the fields of philanthropy, business, charities and the public sector.

Fiona Cruickshank OBE, chair of the Community Foundation, said: “Its critical to the Community Foundation’s success that our Board draws on diverse expertise. Our charity sector trustees bring huge value to our work and help to ensure we are accountable to the communities we serve and connected to wider issues relevant to our work. With her arts expertise, experience of networks across the north, alongside her knowledge of events, fundraising and marketing, Claire will be a fantastic addition to our Board.”

Claire Malcolm said: “The North East is a region close to my heart. I studied here and returned after graduating to found New Writing North and have worked and lived here since then. I am passionate about ensuring local causes are supported by philanthropy. So, I relish the opportunity to be involved with the Community Foundation and to bring my skills, networks and experience into play to support such an important and vibrant organisation.”
