The Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland is delighted to welcome Colin Hewitt as a trustee and Kevin Maloney as Philanthropy Advisor. Kevin joins the Community Foundation staff team based at Philanthropy House.
Colin has been a partner at law firm Ward Hadaway for 40 years holding a range of management positions. He has worked across the public, charity and private sectors acting for, among others, Northern Rock Foundation, the North East Social Investment Fund and the Foundation of Light.
“I have always admired the work of the Community Foundation and I have seen first-hand, through my firm’s own long-standing Community Foundation fund, the important work which it supports. Giving back to the communities in which we live and work is a quality which is firmly entrenched within my business. Becoming a trustee is an incredibly important role and I relish the challenge and the chance to support the vital work which the Community Foundation supports right across our region”.
Colin’s current appointments include being: a trustee of Building Futures East, a member of the Strategic Advisory Board of Newcastle Gateshead Initiative and a member of the Northumbria University Legal Faculty Curriculum Advisory Group. He recently helped to establish, and is a Director of, The Open North Foundation, set up to support business recovering from the effects of COVID.
Kevin joined the Community Foundation in October 2021. Prior to joining the Foundation, he was a banking lawyer at Muckle LLP where he provided a range of advice for banks and other lenders, businesses and organisations.
Kevin volunteers weekly at the People’s Kitchen and he explained it was partially his experiences there that prompted his change in career path:
“After being a lawyer for over 20 years, I was ready for a new challenge. I love volunteering at the People’s Kitchen and it has been a real insight into the fantastic work that many charities and organisations undertake. I’m delighted to join the Community Foundation team and I’m looking forward to helping support the regions community causes.”
In his new role, Kevin is responsible for promoting and supporting philanthropy by providing advice and services to people and businesses that have set up funds to support the regions charitable sector.
