The Community Foundation is proud to be the first funder of the innovative North East England Climate Coalition (NEECCo). The Coalition announced the launch of their new website last week.
NEECCo are a cross-sector initiative that is the region’s contribution, on behalf of future generations, to the urgent, radical and at scale response demanded by the global climate emergency. Their ambition is to make the North East ‘England’s Greenest Region’.
Sandra King, Chief Philanthropy Officer at the Community Foundation said:
‘The passion, vision and ambition of this vital work was compelling from day one. No one sector can tackle this alone, so to see this cross sector, North East wide project, led by Civil Society/the voluntary sector, is fantastic.’
She added:
‘For me, the importance of this work is not only that it will tackle the climate emergency and reverse ecological collapse, but importantly that it will do so by delivering an urgent and just transition – it was the emphasis on fairness that really resonated with so much of the work that we support at the Community Foundation.’
NEECCo will officially launch in Autumn 2020 with a regional prospectus outlining their ambitious targets for the next 30 years. They are inviting interested groups and individuals to join their mailing list and be updated with the latest developments.
