Today the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland has launched the first ‘Good to Give’ guide. This new guide, which aims to inform and inspire North East donors, is the first of its kind in the UK and will help people support local North East charities who are making a positive impact on poverty in the region. You can download a copy here.

The Good to Give guide enables people to find out and more about the work of 23 Community Foundation regional grantees and local Citizens Advice Services, and donate to them directly or via the Foundation. All are making a difference to poverty and have adapted their work during the pandemic. and beyond.

Poverty was already affecting people in the North East before the pandemic and the virus has made things harder. This winter will likely see an increased need in the North East communities arising from a ‘perfect storm’ of increased fuel prices, ending of furlough, potential shortages of goods, and the removal of the £20 Universal Credit uplift.

Rob Williamson, Chief Executive of the Community Foundation said:

“We’re particularly concerned about the impact of poverty this winter. So we wanted to shine a light on some of the amazing organisations we know who are under the radar but doing brilliant work with modest resources.

“At the Community Foundation, through the generosity of our donors, we support hundreds of small, local charities and community organisations every year. The Good to Give guide is a great place to start for anyone wanting to make a difference. By donating to one or more of the organisations listed, you can help loosen poverty’s grip, and improve the lives of people across our area.”

The first guide of its kind by a Community Foundation in this country it has been informed by what colleagues at Community Foundation’s in Canada have done, especially Toronto, which publishes an annual ‘good to give’ guide.
