The Weightman Fund was established in 2007, by Catherine and Malcolm Weightman, building up the endowment over a number of years. They have pledged to add to their fund by leaving a legacy gift in their will.
The fund supports general charitable activities in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland with a particular interest in supporting projects that provide guidance to vulnerable children and young people.

“We have both been extremely fortunate in our lives with stable and supportive families, good educations and the opportunities to follow interesting and successful careers.

“Malcolm was born and brought up in the North East, his father was a police officer in Wallsend and his mother a teacher. Despite living and working all over the world he was always going to return north. We moved from the Midlands to Northumberland in 1990. Through our respective work and our involvement in local charities we became increasingly aware of the unmet need in some parts of the region.

“We set up the Weightman Fund in order to be able to provide support to organisations working to address problems within the community, our way of giving something back to an area that has given us so much. It was a logical progression to provide legacy funding to continue this after we have gone. We have no dependents and are confident the Community Foundation will ensure our wishes are carried out on our behalf.”
