The ‘#iwill Fund’ is a £40m funding partnership between government and Big Lottery supported by Step Up To Serve, a charity devoted to increasing volunteering and social action among young people. Supported by their national network, UKCF, Community Foundations across the country have provided match funding to support local activities through a Youth Social Action Fund.
As part of this Youth Social Action initiative, County Durham Community Foundation awarded the Lanchester Partnership £3000 to enable young people to develop and protect the natural living environment on 6 acres of land adjacent to a nature reserve. Working outside to maintain and develop this natural site has helped to build confidence and self-reliance in young people, encouraging them to become custodians of their local environment.
