Fourteen is a £3.5m programme funded by Spirit of 2012, a charity set up by the Big Lottery Fund to tackle disadvantage. With substantial match funding from the Community Foundation and Sunderland City Council, it has brought £360,000 to Ryhope and Hendon in Sunderland.
As part of this initiative Sunderland People First and Autism in Mind secured a tender worth £37,000 to improve perceptions of people with learning disabilities and autism. This has supported a programme of workshops for community groups across the two wards, led by people with disabilities. In Summer 2017 the group attended the Hendon Together and Ryhope Carnival events to showcase their work.
