“During these extremely difficult times when everyone is facing the challenges of conducting their lives in very different ways, we want to acknowledge the extra special efforts of so many people connected to our voluntary organisations across Tyne and Wear and Northumberland. There is so much being done by so many, and in very different and innovative ways to help and support older people and the vulnerable in our communities. We admire and applaud the dedication and resilience of all these volunteers and want to say a huge ‘Thank You’.
“We appreciate that for many organisations there are real problems in continuing to resource their activities so we were delighted that the Community Foundation has set up its own Coronavirus Response and Recovery Fund and that it has already made some grants. It is excellent news for our area that the Foundation is also going to distribute grants from the National Emergency Trust.
“Here in the North East we have a great community spirit and we will continue to work together over the coming weeks. And in the words of Her Majesty the Queen – ‘while we may have more still to endure, better days will return.’
“But for now, our thanks and warmest good wishes to you all.”
Her Grace, the Duchess of Northumberland, Lord-Lieutenant of Northumberland
