Rob has overall responsibility for the Community Foundation’s strategy, development and effectiveness, working closely with the Chair and Board of trustees.

He joined as Chief Executive in July 2009, having previously been Director of Policy and Communications at Northern Rock Foundation, a large corporate foundation in North East England. Rob began his career working with homeless and vulnerable people. He went on to a development role working on voluntary sector engagement in urban regeneration. He then spent three years as a policy and strategy officer in local government, working on voluntary sector policy, grant aid, community engagement and equalities.

Rob has been a trustee of several national, regional and local charities. He is currently Vice Chair of UK Community Foundations, sits on the BBC’s Charity Appeals Advisory Committee and the Court of Newcastle University, and is a member of advisory panels for the Institute of Public Policy Research (the Future of Civil Society in the North programme) and Charity Bank.
