Local Action on Global Issues
A grant making programme by North East Grant Making Trusts on environmental issues
Local Action on Global Issues is a pilot grant-making programme to raise awareness of environmental issues. It demonstrates how local action can contribute to tackling global issues by making grants to voluntary organisations in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.
The Fund is a partnership of The Greggs Trust, The Community Foundation and The Shears Foundation with further funding from the Sir James Knott Trust.
Grants from £1,000 to £20,000 are awarded to projects that educate people about global environmental issues and involve people in practical projects to raise awareness of global warming.

Gateshead Youth Council received a grant of £13,500 to produce 5 mini videos to educate young people about environmental issues. The videos focus on recycling, food miles, sustainable energy, carbon footprints and sustainable transport. The project will raise awareness of climate change amongst young people, and motivate them to change the way they live.
