Grassroots Grants
Grassroots Grants is funded by the Office for Civil Society (OCS) and delivered by the Community Development Foundation. It is a three-year scheme to March 2011. The Community Foundation will deliver small grants programmes in Northumberland, Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland, and Gateshead.
Who can apply?
Not for profit, voluntary or community groups who:
- have been in existence for a year or more
- have an average income over three years of less than £30,000 per year
- work for the benefit of their local community
- are led by volunteers
- have a written set of rules or constitution

Size of Grant
Applications can be for between £250 and £5,000. Groups can apply more than once until they have received £5,000 in total.
Each group or organisation can receive a maximum of £5000 during the entire programme.
What can be funded?
The grants are intended to benefit the community, so can be very wide ranging, including the purchase of equipment such as computers or kitchen facilities, a local community event, small-scale training and staffing costs, local community activities and rent costs. They can expand on an existing funded project.
Applications for large items of equipment (£500 or over) are welcomed.
