Young Musicians Fund

Fund description: To develop the musicial skills of children and young people under the age of 18 with grants towards instrument and tuition costs.

Date established: 1996

Geographical area: Tyne & Wear and Northumberland and Durham

Size of grants awarded: Between £100 and £1,000

Further details: The Young Musicians Fund was set up by Kathryn Tickell who was concerned that opportunities for children and young people to experience traditional music were diminishing in this region. Grants are awarded twice a year in April and November with deadlines in March and October. The Committee consists of professionals from the music industry, including Kathryn, and from music education.

Grants are given to children and young people under 18 who are struggling to pay for tuition fees or want help to purchase an instrument. Applicants must be able to demonstrate commitment and have the support of their music teacher or school. Groups can also apply to the Fund if they are assisting children to access music opportunities.
