Taking local action on global environmental issues
Many environmental challenges lie ahead for communities both locally and globally. It is likely that in 20 years time, when the Community Foundation is celebrating 40 years of encouraging local giving, building stronger communities and addressing poverty in the North East, we will still be tackling environmental issues including climate change adaptation and mitigation.
The Community Foundation is committed to improving our understanding of environmental issues and how we can respond to the challenges and opportunities connected with climate change and the growing pressures on global resources.
What action is the Community Foundation taking?
We believe it is critical that we consider and work towards reducing our environmental impact. The Community Foundation is working in the following ways to address its own environmental impact as well as inspiring others to do the same:
1. We have developed and are monitoring ourselves against an organisational sustainability policy.
2. In our grant making, we are encouraging voluntary and community sector groups to think about the impact they have on the environment through providing useful resources and information. If you would like to do more to help your local environment click here to visit our resources page.
3. Working in partnership with local Trusts, the Local Environmental Action Fund (formerly known as the Local Action on Global Issues fund) has been established to support community based environmental projects and share learning with communities and grant makers.
