20th Dec 2017
The Readman Family Grassroots Fund at the Community Foundation is intending to make at least three grants of up to £20,000 each to Sported members for a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA). The grants will be expected to cover the purchase and siting of a suitably sized MUGA, any costs required to level the ground, associated costs (i.e. insurance / security) and a budget for sporting equipment to be used on the site.
The intention is that the MUGAs will be available to young people to encourage them to engage in healthy pursuits and to offer a distraction from boredom and anti-social behaviour. In addition, they will enhance the community and strengthen the capacity of the group. Sported members should have a strong volunteer force working alongside any salaried staff and will need to demonstrate how they will make the MUGAs accessible to young people in areas of disadvantage.
Groups must be able to confirm that they have permission to site a MUGA and/or a lease on the area where it will be placed for a minimum of 10 years. The Community Foundation will consider applications from Sported groups working in partnership with other organisations who are landowners on condition that there is a formal agreement regarding access and long-term ownership of the asset.
