Guidance and support for applicants
Who can apply?
- For our general grants, we only fund activities in Tyne and Wear and Northumberland, so your application should be for work that takes place within this area.
- Specific calls for applications related to individual funds, projects and programmes occasionally include funding for activities elsewhere, which we will make clear to applicants.
- You do not have to be a registered charity to get a grant, but we can only give grants for activities that are charitable in law.
- Groups that apply must have a governing document (constitution, rules, memorandum and articles of association etc.) unless they fall into the categories of church, school or a Parochial Church Council.
- Groups must also have a bank account in their own name with at least two unrelated signatories.
- Some of our funds also support individuals; these opportunities are advertised separately.
What can you apply for?
- You can apply for general running costs, specific projects or activities, or for the costs of capital developments or equipment.
- On average, our grants are for a few thousand pounds, although we make smaller and larger awards.
- You must be able to explain what you will do with the grant, who will benefit and how you know the work will be effective.
- CICs or other social enterprises with a good business plan can apply for help with start up or expansion, but we do not normally support their general running costs.
What happens if you are successful?
- When you accept an offer of a grant, you agree to our terms and conditions.
- We pay grants by BACS into your group’s account.
- You have to send us a brief report on how you spent our grant and the difference it has made to your group or community.
