Staff at Muckle LLP have visited Chopwell Tea Dance, a beneficiary of the Muckle LLP Fund at the Community Foundation, to celebrate a landmark of giving nearly £350,000 in support to community projects in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.

Hugh Welch, Senior Partner at Muckle LLP, said:

“As one of the region’s leading corporate law firms, Muckle LLP believe it is important to create growth in the North East through committed support to the local community. We have recently launched our new CSR report which highlights some of our success in the community through our funds at the Community Foundation and pro bono work. We were delighted to support Chopwell Tea Dance, and hope they can continue their good work.”

The Muckle LLP Fund at the Community Foundation was founded in 2000 and has contributed over £341,000 to support local community projects. In November 2013 The Muckle LLP Grassroots Fund donated £832.00 to Chopwell Tea Dance to provide leisure and recreational activities for old people at Chopwell Community Centre in Gateshead.

Lisa Cappleman, Head of Philanthropy Development at the Community Foundation, added:

“Corporate funds at the Community Foundation are a way for companies to give back to their community by helping local people and groups. We are proud of the support that Muckle LLP have given to their area, and through the fund they can make a difference for generations to come.”

Chopwell Tea Dance meets every Thursday from 1.30pm at Chopwell Community Centre as a leisure and recreational activity for older people. The grant from the Muckle LLP Grassroots Fund has allowed the group to pay for rental space for a year, meaning that money raised from their weekly membership can be used to take the group on a dancing excursion in the North East, which they have not been able to do during the past year due to rising costs and lower numbers in the group.
