Deadline extended to apply for Comic Relief funding in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland

Fund worth £50,000 is ready to reach local projects in your community

After raising a jaw-dropping £73,026,234 on Red Nose Day last month, Comic Relief announced a new £50,000 Community Cash fund, to support local community projects across Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.

After many weeks of fantastic fundraising across the Red Nose Day 2017 campaign and thanks to the generous donations from the people of Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, it is now the UK public’s opportunity to get a slice of the funds and apply for a Comic Relief Community Cash grant. For those who haven’t applied, there is now less than two weeks left to apply.

Comic Relief Community Cash grants of £500 to £1,000 are available to small organisations in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland that are doing great work to help local people living tough lives. Applications are open now, with the Community Foundation working with Comic Relief to get the cash to the groups that need it most. Interested groups can apply by going to

Gilly Green, head of UK grants said, “The Comic Relief Community Cash initiative is extremely important to Comic Relief and enables us to help more than a thousand smaller projects all across the UK. The grants can be used for a wide variety of needs, from equipment for disability sports clubs, to activities bringing communities together, to specialist training for volunteers providing essential support.  We encourage any community group or project who are in need of some extra funding to apply for the grant through their local community foundation.”

Mark Pierce at the Community Foundation said: “These small grants really do transform the fortunes of the local organisations they benefit. There are so many groups in Tyne and Wear and Northumberland which are a vital resource for the community and do a massive amount on very little money. These new Comic Relief Community Cash grants will provide a welcome boost.”
